Backstory
My birth name is Aeammavio Kavothoknaegualavia, but many call me Snow Student or Snow for short. I come from the Thukath (or Frost Claw in human speak) tribe in the Thrym Wastelands, where the winds howl with the whispers of gods and the snow holds secrets older than human kingdoms.
The wastelands were not a kind place to grow up. We were constantly fighting other tribes over the scarce food available to us. These experiences made me battle tested and gave me the experience that I need as a fighter and protector of the innocent.
I have fond memories of the time with my clan. We worked hard together to make a better community with everyone doing their part. Like all Goliath, we were a competitive clan, with each of us working hard to outdo each other and ourselves.
All was going well until tragedy struck - the tragedy that gave me the name I have today. It occurred during one of our migrations. I went ahead to track an animal on a hunt when the world turned white. Snow and ice came roaring down the mountain, separating me from my tribe. I spent a month trying to get back to them. My great axe allowed me to carve shelters from ice, while my pike tested treacherous grounds that could swallow a warrior whole.
These long, cold nights of solitude offered me opportunity to reflect on my relationship to the natural world. I felt as if I was channeling the powers of nature. The harsh cold spoke to me, and taught me how to embrace the power it provided. I don’t know if it was an ancient god or the essence of frost itself, but it left a mark in me.
These changes were only the beginning of what was to come in my journey. When I found my tribe again, my elders spoke of dreams and of ancient powers beneath the ice. The threats to our people grew, and for the first time in generations, we looked beyond our own for allies. I decided to serve alongside the Dwarves of Shardwall Mountains in order to better develop a relationship between our people.
Those were strange years - especially considering the height difference between me and everyone I served with. These years provided me an opportunity to meld my tribal ways with military discipline. The Dwarves taught me their tongue and their tactics. My great axe and pike, once tools of survival, became instruments of coordinated warfare. My unit didn’t always understand my ways, and I received much discipline as a result. It was here I learned that not all laws are just. I must do whatever I can to protect the innocent, even if that means bending a rule or ten.
Yet even as I served in their ranks, the dreams came. Like the omens before the avalanche, but stronger. The old gods are restless, their voices carried on winds from the Wastelands. I see it in the changing patterns of the storms, feel it in the trembling of the ice beneath my feet. Something is coming.
That’s why I’ve left the security of military service. The powers that saved me during that avalanche are pulling me toward something greater. The world beyond our wastes is changing - I hear talk of divine magic and ancient conflicts, of splintered empires and stirring powers. Whatever is awakening in the south, I know my path lies in understanding it.
I carry with me the strength of my people, the discipline of my military service, and the power of winter itself. I am Aeammavio “Snow Student” Kavothoknaegualavia, and my journey is only beginning.
